9/11/01- Thousands of innocent lives are lost when terrorists hit the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania. 

10/26/01- The Patriot Act is signed, giving law enforcement new powers as a result of September 11th terrorist attack.

Dec. 2001- "War on Terrorism" is started.   Afghanistan and Iraq are the countries to be directly affected by this.

6/29/04- A law is passed resulting in 25 European nations imposing a ban on wearing hijab in public schools.

3/18/05 - Dr. Amina Wudud is the first woman in modern times to lead a Muslim Friday prayer of mixed gender.

7/2/05- Sandra Day O' Conner, the first woman justice of the Supreme Court, resigns after serving for 24 years.

7/7/05- Terrorists attack London subways and buses.  Approximately people 50 are killed in this tragedy. 

8/29/05- Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip is completed, and the Gaza Strip is under Palestinian Authority after 38 years under Israeli occupation.

8/28/05- Hurricane Katrina hits Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama causing massive destruction and killing thousands of people.
